Sony Corporation: Top Black Friday Deals For PS3, Xbox 360

The peak holiday selling season has arrived, with Black Friday coming in just two days. The holiday season should be centered mainly on the console launches as Sony and Microsoft ship more units into the channel and as consumers try to locate units.

Sony Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:SNE) launched PlayStation 4 into the North American market on Nov.15 and will debut the console into Europe and Latin America on Friday Nov. 29. Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ:MSFT) also launched the Xbox One on Nov.22.

Both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One have sold more than 1 million units in their first 24 hours of availability. That said, Sony achieved this in North America alone while Microsoft hit this target after launching in 13 different markets.

While a large number of consumers flocking to the major retailers in search of limited supplies of the new PS4 and Xbox One consoles, the vast majority of volume should remain centered around the biggest games (and biggest deals) of the year on the PS3 and Xbox 360.

Retailers have significant promotions in place to help drive traffic for the holidays – especially around hardware bundles and key software titles for the legacy console systems. Consoles tend to perform well on Black Friday. Last year, Microsoft sold 750,000 Xbox 360 consoles on the shopping holiday.

For the PS4 and Xbox One, demand is expected to outstrip supply throughout the holiday season, according to BMO Capital Markets analyst Edward Williams. As for the PS3 and Xbox 360, Williams believes that discounted software and bundles will drive demand as consumers focus on recent hit titles that include Call of Duty: Ghosts, Battlefield 4, Grand Theft Auto V, Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, and Super Mario 3D World.

BP plc (BP) Remains Undervalued

BP plc (BP) has outperformed its super-major production and exploration peers in the past year, but we think the oil giant is still playing catch-up and has more room to run.

Of course, the big cloud hanging over London-based BP has been the fallout from the Gulf oil spill and the horde of plaintiffs seeking compensation, but we think lawyers' pockets have been sufficiently stuffed and that investors will continue to focus on BP's promising fundamentals and a valuation that still lags its peers in significant ways.

Consider these metrics:

Based on 2014 estimates, BP trades at a price-to-earnings ratio of 9.58, compared with 12.45 for Chevron Corp. (CVX) and 12.53 for Exxon Mobil Corp. (XOM).  Earnings per share are expected to increase 15.45% next year at BP, versus 2.5% for CVX and 5.20% for XOM. On a price-to-book value basis, BP is at 1.19, versus 1.59 for CVX and 2.54 for XOM. Meanwhile, BP sports a heft dividend yield of 4.65% compared with 3.32% for CVX and 2.57% for XOM.

[Related -Call Options Active in Yahoo! Inc. (YHOO)and BP plc (ADR) (BP)]

Given those comparisons, the market still hasn't fully embraced BP, despite its outperformance in the past year. BP is up more than 17% in the past year, compared with 7.32% and 9.84% for CVX and XOM, respectively.

One big investor thinks the way we do.  David Einhorn disclosed this week his hedge fund Greenlight Capital has bought a "medium" stake in BP, saying its improved return on capital is still unrecognized.  In a letter to clients Einhorn said he bought BP American depositary shares (ADS) at $47.39 and sees a net asset value of $70.  The ADS closed yesterday at $49.04, up 1.05%.

[Related -7 Deep-Value Energy Leaders With 68% Upside]

So, what are we and Einhorn looking at?  Here's a sketch of BP's opportunities:

A focus on growth areas and a retreat from non-core assets.  BP has sold refineries in California and Texas, retaining three in the U.S. that have a competitive advantage, which should improve returns.  In addition, the company brought online upgrades to its Whiting facility in Indiana, which will improve its ability to refine heavy Canadian oil.

New Success in the Gulf of Mexico.  BP said last month that it and partner ConocoPhillips made what it called "a huge find" at its Gila prospect in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico.  It was the first major oil find by BP in the gulf since the Deepwater Horizon rig blowout in 2010.

Strong natural gas positions in the Fayetteville, Eagle Ford and other shale formations.

Oil companies lagged the broad market performance in 2013, largely due to the stagnation of oil and gas prices, and this remains the biggest risk for BP and its peers.  But if global economic conditions continue to improve, energy prices should hold their own or rise.

BP will report fourth-quarter results on Feb. 4, and analysts are expecting earnings per ADS of $1.08, down from $1.27 in the year-ago period.  The company beat expectations in the third quarter, reporting EPADS of $1.17 versus a consensus estimate of $0.97.

10 Best Defensive Stocks To Invest In 2014

Benjamin Graham was Warren Buffett's professor and mentor at Columbia Business School. Buffett even named his son Howard Graham Buffett, after Graham. In the preface to Graham's book, "The Intelligent Investor," Buffett calls it "by far the best book about investing ever written."

Serenity's Benjamin Graham Screener applies Graham's 16 financial criteria to 4,500 NYSE and Nasdaq stocks to find Defensive, Enterprising and NCAV grade Graham stocks today.

Last year, we briefly saw a formula that Graham actually warned against, but is widely used as "The Benjamin Graham Formula." Today, we will look in greater depth into how this confusion came about, what Graham actually wrote and finally, some stocks that meet the more complex formulas that Graham actually did recommend.

The Wrong Intrinsic Value Formula

The formula itself is mentioned in "Chapter 11: Security Analysis for the Lay Investor" of Graham's seminal book, "The Intelligent Investor," as:

Value = Current (Normal) Earnings X (8.5 plus twice the expected annual growth rate)

Its off-road vehicles include all-terrain vehicles, specialized utility vehicles, and go-karts. Kandi Technologies Corp. is based in Jinhua, the People?s Republic of China.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Teresa Rivas]

Kandi Technologies (KNDI) was soaring 17.5% at recent check as the auto maker announced that the Chinese government will offer subsidies for electric cars.

The long-awaited policy covers not only pure electric vehicles, but also plug-in hybrid electric and fuel cell battery cars, and runs through 2015. According to the report, the government would offer up to RMB 60,000 (approximately USD 9,800) for the purchase of an all-electric passenger vehicle and up to RMB 500,000 (approximately USD 81,700) for the purchase of an electric bus.

However, the news did little to stop Tesla (TSLA), which was revving toward fresh all-time highs, up more than 5% to $174.78.

Nor did news Wednesday that Volkswagen plans to have electric vehicles for sale in the U.S. by 2015.

However, Tesla plans to have its own innovations to offer not long after that year, as CEO Elon Musk said that it is designing a self-driving car that will be available within the next three years. The company is obviously taking aim at Google (GOOG), so far the leader in auto-pilot cars.

Deutsche Bank boosted its price target for Tesla to $200 yesterday. Also, Northland Securities is making positive comments on the stock today, reports Briefing.com.

    Rotten Kandi
This year has certainly been the year of going green, with anything solar or electric-vehicle-based shooting to the moon. The latest in a serious of rocket stocks is China's Kandi Technologies (NASDAQ: KNDI  ) , which has basically doubled in just the past two weeks following the Chinese government's approval of the company's first all-electric sedan. Given the success of Tesla Motors (NASDAQ: TSLA  ) in the U.S., many are suspecting that Kandi will be a surefire winner with Geely Automotive in its corner as a partner. As for me, I'm not as convinced.

  • [By Bryan Murphy]

To fully appreciate the investment-worthiness of electric vehicles, one only has to look at how well shares of Tesla Motors Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) or Kandi Technologies Group Inc. (NASDAQ:KNDI) have done since the technology as well as the motivation to make EVs "work" has been in place. KNDI shares are up more than 200% since the end of 2007, while TSLA shares are up nearly 700% since their IPO in mid-2010. The big moves can't be chalked up to a little volatility either. Both Tesla Motors and Kandi Technologies have electric cars on the road, whereas they didn't before.

  • [By Roberto Pedone]

Kandi Technologies Group (KNDI) is engaged in designing, developing, manufacturing and commercializing electrical vehicles, all-terrain vehicles, go-karts and specialized automobiles related products for the People's Republic of China and global markets. This stock closed up 5.3% to $5.35 in Tuesday's trading session.

    Tuesday's Range: $5.21-$5.55

    52-Week Range: $3.08-$8.50

    Tuesday's Volume: 1.78 million

    Three-Month Average Volume: 1.72 million

From a technical perspective, KNDI jumped higher here right above some near-term support at $5.07 with above-average volume. This move is quickly pushing shares of KNDI within range of triggering a near-term breakout trade. That trade will hit if KNDI manages to take out Tuesday's high of $5.55 to some more resistance at $5.72 with high volume.

Traders should now look for long-biased trades in KNDI as long as it's trending above some near-term support at $5.07 or above its 50-day at $4.85 and then once it sustains a move or close above those breakout levels with volume that hits near or above 1.72 million shares. If that breakout hits soon, then KNDI will set up to re-test or possibly take out its next major overhead resistance levels at $6.50 to $7.

Strategist Andrew Garthwaite and team explain why companies like Sprint (S), American Water Works (AWK), Volcano (VOLC), Southern (SO) and Level 3 Communications(LVLT) could get hit by the taper:

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

Instead of an eruption, Volcano (VOLC) got an earnings-induced collapse instead.

    Associated Press

Medical-device maker Volcano said its third quarter profit would miss Wall Street forecasts, and 2013 sales would also disappoint. And 2014? Well, that didn’t look too exciting other.

JPMOrgan analyst Christopher Pasquale and team have had enough:

We are downgrading VOLC shares to Neutral from Overweight following the company negative 3Q preannouncement and disappointing initial 2014 growth outlook Monday after the close. While we continue to see significant long-term potential for Volcano technologies, we are concerned by persistent headwinds to its core IVUS franchise and slowing FFR growth. With our conviction in a pipeline-driven reacceleration reduced and visibility into meaningful new growth drivers unlikely for several quarters, we are moving to the sidelines.

Canaccord Genuity’s Jason Mills and Jeffrey Chu also cut Volcano to Hold–just a quarter after upgrading it–and even today’s drop might not make it worth buying. They explain why:

Our upgrade of VOLC last quarter was predicated on the improving trends in the core IVUS business, FFR continuing as a long-term growth engine, and the potential material gross margin expansion. While Q3 results included pockets of good news, adverse trends predominated.
While US IVUS rebounded modestly, driven by peripheral IVUS (+40% Y/Y), IVUS and FM results in Japan were very disconcerting to us (-19%, +8%, respectively), and portend share loss, in our estimation. Also, while we still expect significant gross margin expansion long term, it seems we may have to wait longer than expected.

In sum, we would not aggressively buy weakness unless the stock is over-penalized on these results – i.e. below $20.

While shares of Volcano have dropped 15% to $20.74, large-cap medical device companies are having a solid day. Boston Scienti

Another prime case study for this comes from Spectrum Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ: SPPI  ) . Spectrum's stock more than doubled from October 2011 through July 2012. However, shares plunged 55% from those highs because business dynamics changed since then. A shortage of a generic rival to Spectrum's lead drug Fusilev was alleviated, resulting in sales slowing down considerably.

Small cap stocks KBridge Energy Corp (OTCMKTS: BMMCF), Medifocus Inc (OTCMKTS: MDFZF) and Inscor Inc (OTCMKTS: IOGA) have been getting some attention lately in various investment newsletters and some of it is deserved as the first stock sank 35% on Friday, the second one recently released its financials (which did show a big improvement, but there is also a big catch for investors) and the third one has been the subject of a very aggressive promotional campaign. But are any of these three small caps really all that hot for investors? Here is a quick reality check:

Best Telecom Stocks To Buy Right Now

LONDON -- There are things to love and loathe about most companies. Today, I'm going to tell you about three things to love aboutBT Group (LSE: BT-A  ) (NYSE: BT  ) .

I'll also be asking whether these positive factors make this FTSE 100 telecommunications company a good investment today.

Hanging on the telephone
Ian Livingston was appointed chief executive of BT part way through the company's financial year ending March 2009. BT's operating margin plummeted to 5.4% that year and the group made a bottom-line loss.

Since then, though, Livingston has rebuilt margins impressively: 10.4% (2010), 13.1% (2011), 14.5% (2012), and 16.6% (2013). Profits and earnings per share have been growing nicely and there appears to be good momentum in the business.

Don't look back in anger
BT has cut its dividend twice since the turn of the millennium; not the kind of track record investors like to see. However, driving a car by looking only in the rearview mirror isn't the wisest idea, and, similarly, focusing solely on a company's potholed dividend past may prevent us from seeing what might be a smoother income road ahead.

Vodafone (NASDAQ: VOD  ) agreed to buy Kabel Deutschland, Germany's largest cable operator, for $10.1 billion in an effort to expand in one of Europe's only healthy economies. Vodafone will expand its TV and fixed-line business and add them to the wireless services it already offers in the country.

    Catalyst: Verizon Stake Buyout

Shares of Vodafone Group (VOD) are up big today after news that Verizon Communications (VZ) could pay as much as $130 billion for the 45% of Verizon's wireless business that Vodafone owns. The possibility that the deal could be completed this week is spiking shares of VOD by as much as 8% in this afternoon's trading, as investors salivate over a balance sheet flush with cash.

From a technical standpoint, things don't get much better than Vodafone: shares of the UK-based phone carrier gapped up to a new high this morning on the news. Making new highs is significant from an investor psychology standpoint because it means that everyone who has bought shares in the last year is sitting on gains. As a result, the "back to even" mentality is less of a concern than it would be for a name with a higher proportion of shareholders sitting on losses.

Investors who aren't risk-averse may want to consider jumping in here; just keep a tight stop in place.

Barrow, Hanley reduced its stake in lots of companies, including Vodafone (NASDAQ: VOD  ) , which holds a 45% stake in the successful Verizon Wireless business, with Verizonholding the other 55%. Vodafone shareholders are watching to see whether Verizon buys out the remaining 45%. The company may be less attractive without the Wireless stake, so there isn't uniform support for the buyout.

Another under-$10 wireless telecom player that's starting to move within range of triggering a major breakout trade is Partner Communications (PTNR), a telecommunications company, provides cellular and fixed-line telecommunication services in Israel. This stock is off to a strong start in 2013, with shares up sharply by 29%.

If you take a look at the chart for Partner Communications, you'll notice that this stock has been trending sideways for the last month, with shares moving between $7.28 on the downside and $7.96 on the upside. Shares of PTRN are bucking the overall market weakness today as the stock starts to move within range of triggering a breakout trade above the upper-end of its sideways trading chart pattern.

Market players should now look for long-biased trades in PTNR if it manages to break out above some near-term overhead resistance levels at $7.80 to $7.85 a share and then once it clears its 52-week high at $7.96 a share with high volume. Look for a sustained move or close above those levels with volume that registers near or above its three-month average volume of 107,303 shares. If that breakout triggers soon, then PTNR will set up to enter new 52-week-high territory, which is bullish technical price action. Some possible upside targets off that move are $10 to $12.20 a share.

Traders can look to buy PTNR off any weakness to anticipate that breakout and simply use a stop that sits right below some key near-term support levels at $7.38 to $7.28, or below its 50-day at $6.97 a share. One can also buy PTNR off strength once it clears those breakout levels with volume and then simply use a stop that sits a comfortable percentage from your entry point.
